ILFRACOMBE AND PLYMOUTH , DEVON, ENGLAND.

Lovely Devon.

=== These two places were visited 5 years ago, on separate holidays 6 weeks
apart. I promised myself to return soon This has not happened. ,mainly because
of the Covid 19. So i've looked up the photos instead. ------ILFRACOMBE is
a lovely seaside resort, in North Devon in England's Southwest Population is
just around 11,000. I arrived in Ilfracombe by public bus ,about 11am, the sea mist was clearing so
i was able to see the resort at its best, in the few hours i had. The train branch
line closed in 1970,there are regular buses.ILFRACOMBE DEVON. --Sea mist can still be seen down by the harbour.

ILFRACOMBE, DEVON. --Harbour--, Statue by Damien Hirst and Lantern Hill with lighthouse.

The harbour is small surrounded
by cliffs .The feature is the modern art statue, "Verity", by Damien Hirst. The statue is stainless steel and bronze and 66.4ft tall on the pier at the entrance to the harbour, since 2012. It is a pregnant woman looking towards the Bristol Channel. Not my favourite statue. Damien Hirst is a English Contemporay artist. -- On Lantern Hill is St Nicholas Chapel from 1321 with the light of the light house since 17th century .Chapel services no longer, but lighthouse still in use today. Believed to be Britain's oldest working lighthouse. Access is by a sloping path.[ img=https://photos.travellerspoint.com/935071/DSCN3632.JPG caption=ILFRACOMBE, DEVON. --Rocky coastline. still a thin mist.]ILFRACOMBE, DEVON. -- Harbour lights pub, in Broad Street.

Sir Francis Drake, to some a hero to others a villian . Some say a pirate, privateer, slaver, others praise him as a navigator and politician. Folklore is he was playing bowls on Plymouth Hoe, when news came of the Spanish Armada coming up the Channel. He is said to finish the game before attending to the Spanish ships in 1588. Today the Hoe is a large green south facing open public space, above the limestone cliffs.
